Steal our viral ad formula that got us 100M views in a month

I distilled our entire creative process into a secret forumal. Please steal it.

We just created a new ad for Lindy.ai and are proud to announce that only 3 people were maimed for this video (the reports of our intern’s death are greatly exaggerated).

It’s not my fault that our new director went crazy and said we should use REAL INTERNS instead of AI actors.

We pinned the culprit. He made an ass out of himself chasing tail at the office.

Watch the full ad here and let’s break it down:

This was an entirely text-to-video process (this one took about 1 week of concepting, 1 week scripting and 2 weeks of production/editing).

I have a few interesting ads coming out over the next few weeks that I’ll do a technical deep dive. But, since this was a relatively simple workflow (99% Veo 3 text to video), I’ll talk about the creative process for creating viral videos like this.

If you want to make money with AI videos read this next part 👇

You need to stop making artsy short films and start making content that brands can see themselves in.

I created random viral content for 6 months to little success until I created this fake Pharmaceutical ad.

Going viral is near meaningless if it's for low-effort, easy-to-make content.

Security cam footage of bunnies jumping on a trampoline will get views if you're the first one to make the trend, but brands won't reach out unless you tie a viral post TO A PRODUCT.

Capturing attention is more important and yet harder than ever for brands.

They want to work with someone who knows how to "stop the scroll", retain them by surprising and delighting them, and then provide a clear call to action to their product.

For Kalshi, we stopped the scroll by opening on a shot of Jesus on the cross (irreverent but not sacriligious!).

Then we tied it to the "underdog" narrative throughout the video and closed with an invitation to also be an underdog by betting on their app.

For this Lindy video, we open with a crazed office worker throwing his chair through the window, then jumping out.

We spend hours trying to make him jump through glass and ended up just having him throw the chair through the glass in the previous shot.

Things don’t feel dramatic unless there’s a dramatic reaction

Quick cuts showing people's reactions played up the emotion. By now, we've hopefully hooked attention within the first few seconds.

But now we need to tie it to a product.

The….NEWORK network?

"Employees across the world are discovering that they have a lot of free time on their hands...and everyone is asking, who is Lindy?"

Now you're also a bit curious and get the sense that maybe this is an AI agent saves people time?

Lindy in action

"What the hell are you doing?!"

You need an antagonist that creates conflict in your story.

The balding middle manager became the perfect focal point as the "voice of reason".

"Lindy automated all our tasks"

"Let me have a shot" 🤣

“I hope this arrow finds you well”

Then, we wanted an unhinged sequence montage of the most insane shit (just short of Wolf of Wall Street) you might see people doing in the office if they have unlimited free time.

We got him on loan from Tiger King

We had my friend Brian McKay create a custom AI song in Suno similar to Sabotage by Beastie Boys.

"Why the hell don't we have Lindy?" is the closing line, with a crazy visual and then a title sequence of all the tasks that Lindy does.

Grandma is such a kiss ass.

You can now get a bit of a framework for how to make an unhinged (hopefully viral) product commercial

1 - Hook people's attention with something surprising

2 - Ramp up emotion with reaction shots and quick cuts

3 - Pose a question: "Why do people have so much free time?"

4 - Answer the question with insane, over-the-top visuals

5 - Close with a clear call to action

Over the next few weeks, we've got more ads coming out where I'll show you variations on this formula, but it's a great blueprint for scripting viral ads.

Make sure you check out Lindy!

Big shoutout to our entire creative team at my agency Genre.ai that worked on this!

I played Executive Creative Director on this one but this was a big team effort between Anosh (writer), Dan (Director/Editor), Lance (Additional Director) and the rest of the team.

Stay tuned for an ad or so every week over the next few weeks!

Also, my friend Rourke is coming out with an AI ad course in the next few weeks. He gave me early access and it’s AWESOME. I’ll let you know when he launches that.

Thanks for tuning in, be sure to use this format for your videos!
